What is Uncanny Declarations?

Uncanny Declarations, the title of our exhibition, declares a disruption in a space that is meant to seem as normal.

Uncanny Declarations is about taking recognizable things but modifying them to give an uneasy feeling. It's also about exploring the unknown. This can give a sense of curiosity as we don't know where the unknown will lead us to.

Uncanny is something seemingly natural with aspects that are unsettling. It can be represented by weird juxtaposition of images that evoke anxiety or confusion.

Uncanny Declarations decides to run the stark line of abstract thought, where the artwork clearly "declares" that it in of itself is uncanny, but to find that uncanniness, you must find it within yourself to realize what reality and the distorted reality truly is. Could artworks be uncanny because they display unrealistic values that could never exist in real life? Or is the artwork uncanny because it is a statement of how society could become in the future, of how what we see as uncanny now, could be the reality of tomorrow.
